A long time ago I was counseled to appropriately name body parts... you know, with the REAL names. With Mikayla we did this, only to have several embarassing moments. For example the time she wretched all over my boss's office only to explain that her "vagina is burning" very loudly and to the world. Gross and a little shocking as well. BUT, it was nice to know what was wrong. However, we followed by naming our other body parts names that only Randy and I get. For example, buttons. I still wonder if that was ok or not. We've experienced some embarassing moments with this one as well even with our code names.
With Rowan we have other body parts to name... currently we can't exactly tell if he is saying 'peanut' or the REAL thing... any thoughts on this? He openly told the Dr. today "My penuuuth hurt. No touch it." Ugh....
Any thoughts?

For Lucas we always told him what it was really called. We had a very similar situation, where he was saying "my penis hurts" and so I actually took him to the doctor. I was glad I did, because he did have an infection. I personally don't see anything wrong with it, even if at times a little embarrassing...
I'm in favor of using the correct name, even though it can be awkward from time to time. :)
We have tried to call them what they are when asked but Zoie came up with her own name for what Isaac has. The other day she went up to Nathan and said "Daddy Isaac has a pouty!" Nathan said "a what?" Zoie whispered "Its in his pants" I dont know how she came up with it but it works I guess. Hope you guys are well!
How did i miss this post?! So funny. I just had this discussion a little whole ago with some mom friends and I came to the general conclusion that names don't matter, it's about helping your kids have a healthy perspective on their bodies. Helping them understand that there's nothing to be ashamed of although we do see those parts of the body as private and sacred. I feel like I have a pretty healthy perspective on my body but I can't remember the last time I used the word 'breasts'. And I think that's okay. :) I may steal buttons from you, btw.
